Sydney: Today the Minister for the Environment, The Hon. Greg Hunt MP announced four additional draft Emissions Reduction Fund methods that will provide increased capacity to partake in the $2.5 billion fund, passed through the Senate earlier this month. Today, Professor Peter Newman AO – former NSW Sustainability Commissioner in Sydney and Project Leader for the CRC for Low Carbon Living (CRCLCL) – said that research is proving that ‘low’ or ‘no’ carbon living is the future and that Australia is charging ahead in cementing ways to make the built environment sustainable.
The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC)* and Australia’s leading organisation working towards building sustainable communities – the Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living (CRCLCL) – have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to take a global step towards defining ‘low’ to ‘no’ carbon cities in our world.
A resounding message from a recent workshop of Sydney stakeholders brought together to visualise the city’s low carbon, urban design and resources future, is that de-centralised and more socially engaged precincts where people actively participate in government, will create better energy efficiency, self sufficiency and sustainability.
