RP1022: Investigation of innovative sustainable low carbon products from waste materials for built environments

Project leader name:
Professor Veena Sahajwalla
Project status:
Complete
Project period:
07/2015 to 07/2016

The rise in domestic and global economic development is creating sustainable demand for wood based building products (i.e. particleboards), increasing the need for alternate, low carbon, low cost, sustainable products.

This project will study various readily available low cost agricultural and plastic waste materials to produce alternative low-carbon sustainable building products. The research will investigate waste plastics, particularly non-degradable plastics, as binders for wood-based particle boards. Materials such as timber waste and agricultural waste will be studied as alternate fillers for wood-based particle boards.
