The CRC for Low Carbon Living (CRCLCL) was a finalist in the Office of Environment and Heritage’s NSW Green Globe Awards and awarded Highly Commended in the Built Environment category.
Other finalists shortlisted were Fujitsu Australia: Driving Energy Transparency in Data Centres and Mirvac: Bay Centre 6 Stars.
"The CRCLCL's research into the Built Environment is providing important evidence and guidelines for future zero carbon cities and we welcome this recognition from the NSW Green Globe Awards," said CRCLCL CEO Scientia Professor Deo Prasad.
The Built Environment Award recognises excellence and innovation in sustainable design, construction, retrofitting and operation of existing or new buildings, precincts and tenancies.
The CRCLCL is helping prevent climate change by assisting Australia’s built environment sector to move towards a globally competitive low carbon future by committing to contributing a cumulative reduction in carbon emissions of 10 megatonnes by 2020, enabling a projected economic benefit to Australia of over $684 million by 2027.
By supporting outstanding research, the CRCLCL meet the needs of end users, including manufacturers of building materials and products; architects, planners and developers; home owners and communities; and government and regulatory organisations.
Professor Deo Prasad was awarded an individual GreenGlobe Award in 2004 for ‘showing leadership and commitment to the supply of renewable energy’.
The award winners were announced at an event hosted by the Minister for the Environment, Gabrielle Upton at the Art Gallery of NSW.
